On the ground level, a retractable seating unit allows the room to be quickly transformed from an end on configuration to a clear space suitable for drama lessons, workshops and promenade performances. A balcony surrounds the space and provides extra seating on three sides with one side left clear, overlooking the stage providing an additional performance area.
Working with theatre consultants Theatreplan the theatre has been equipped to meet the demands of a busy production environment whilst also being flexible to adapt to new technical developments. Young people training in the space have access to industry standard equipment which ensures that they gain an understanding of the tools used by professionals. A tension wire grid has been installed to allow training to be carried out in situ and enables students to rig and focus lanterns without compromise to their safety. With a varied programme of events, this system also helps speed up the change over between productions. A semi-sprung floor opens up more possibilities for the space including dance rehearsals or performances. Finally, a large format projection screen and full surround sound allows high quality film screenings to take place.
The theatre is available for hire for performances, conferences, rehearsals, workshops and film screenings.
