The Mulberry and Bigland Green Centre Theatre is a 150 seat professional standard performance space designed with flexibility in mind. On ground level a retractable seating unit allows the room to be quickly transformed from an end on configuration to a clear space suitable for drama lessons, workshops and promenade performances. A wrap around balcony with seating on three sides completes the theatre and helps create additional seating layouts including traverse and in the round. For students this gives an opportunity to experiment with various seating configurations whilst providing a flexible space for performance use. The upstage side of the balcony is clear of seating thus allowing increased flexibility with the positioning of performers and musicians .

Working with theatre consultants Theatreplan the theatre has been equipped to meet the demands of a busy production environment whilst also being flexible to adapt to new technical developments. Young people training in the space have access to industry standard equipment which ensures that they gain an understanding of the tools used by professionals. A tension wire grid has been installed to allow training to be carried out in situ and enables students to rig and focus lanterns without compromise to their safety. With a varied programme of events this system also helps speed up the change over between productions. A semi-sprung floor opens up more possibilities for the space including dance rehearsals or performances. Finally, a large format projection screen and full surround sound allows high quality film screenings to take place.

The theatre is available for hire for performances, conferences, rehearsals , workshops and film screenings. For further information including our technical specification please see the hire page.
